Having a curved penis (or as commonly can be called having a bent or curved penis), or is something that many men worry about but that is very normal. Not all curvatures are considered pathological. We can say that there is a problem when this curvature affects or hinders sexual intercourse, there are difficulties when urinating or cause pain to the patient.
Curved penises have different characteristics depending on the shape and how this curve has been acquired.
The penis or phallic body can present with DEVIATIONS of various types:
The deformity of the penis also varies depending on:
There are cases in which the curved penises are associated with the lack of growth of the urethra. If the urinary duct is too short, it produces “deformity,” and this usually causes psychological problems in patients. The deformity of the penis can create insecurity when having sex, and in many cases, this deformity directly affects and hinders sexual intercourse (and even has the risk of billing the phallic limb during sexual play if the curvature is very pronounced).
The penis has two possible clinical forms:
The congenital curve of the penis is produced by a malformation of the cavernous and spongy bodies of the penis from the birth of the male. This curvature has as its only solution the surgical intervention.
Do you have pain in the penis?
75% The congenital curve is usually painless, although it is very pronounced.
The specialist must assess when this curve should be operated. This will basically depend on the severity and difficulties that the curved penis causes the patient. It is assessed on the one hand at the physical level, defining the difficulty or even impossibility of penetration of the member during sexual intercourse or when urinating, and on the other hand at the psychological level, taking into account the trauma that is causing the patient.
The “congenital curve of the penis” is a morphological alteration. In most cases a need for correction is detected, when a sexual health problem appears beyond being considered in some cases as cosmetic surgery.
Peyronie’s disease, causes a clear abnormal curvature of the penis in erection, that is, bends noticeably, which can hinder penetration and cause pain during intercourse. It usually appears after age 40 and can be very uncomfortable and painful. Regarding the treatments, the first thing we should know is the time that has elapsed since its appearance, the existing degree of twisting and how this twist affects the sexual relationship. The disease of Peyronie or induratio penis plastica is a disease that inflames the tunica albuginea, which is the fibrous membrane that covers the testicle and that participates in the erection. The origins of this disease are still being studied, but it usually appears related to diabetes, the consumption of certain medications and in some cases after receiving a blow to the limb during the sexual act.
Do you have pain in the penis?
3 out of 4 patients with Peyronie’s Disease have pain in the penis. More than half also have palpable nodules in the penis, retraction, loss of size and some erectile dysfunction.
One of the main characteristics of curved penises is the lack of symmetry of the corpus cavernosum. That is to say that usually the curvature of the penis, especially the lateral curvature, entails or is the cause of an asymmetry between both corpus cavernosum.
Iontophoresis can be a solution to the acquired curve of the penis in its early stages. Thanks to iontophoresis we can apply a drug in a profound way that eliminates the nodules that cause the penile curvature.
In more severe cases these problems are solved (for the congenital and acquired curve) through surgical intervention. The biggest problem that this operation usually causes to the patients is the reduction of the virile member. This is because until recently, the only thing that could be done was to cut a longer part of the corpus cavernosum to result in two equal bodies. The greater the curvature, the greater the amount needed to cut.
Thanks to the development and research of this technique in depth, MD Natalio Cruz, head of the medical services of our Clinic, can guarantee that the shortening of the penis in these surgeries is reduced to a minimum, thus allowing to maintain almost in its entirety the natural size of the penis. This procedure involves enlarging, using graft, the shorter cavernous body, and thus making the penis completely symmetrical without reducing the size. Another new method developed is the rotation of the corpus cavernosum. This method, like the previous one, considerably reduces the shortening of the penis thus maintaining 95% of the initial size that the patient had before the intervention.
This problem in 99% of cases has a solution. The penis maintains its sexual and reproductive functionality of 100%. After the operation, the patient retains 95% of the initial size of his penis.
We must not let time go by, and we must do the surgical intervention at the same moment in which this malformation is detected.
If it is before the male begins to relate sexually much better to start a full and healthy sexual life.
The sexual health of men is very important for their development and emotional stability, taking care of them from a very young age is fundamental.
When dealing with these treatments with patients, we must bear in mind that they usually arrive with fear and distrust due to misinformation.
“The discretion in the consultation, the empathy and the compression with the importance of maintaining the size of the penis are fundamental for a proper understanding doctor/patient in this type of treatments.”
